Executive Director

Background: Mid Central Community Action (www.mccainc.org) is a Bloomington, Illinois based nonprofit human services organization that has served the residents of McLean and Livingston Counties since 1965. It is a leading resource for comprehensive home ownership services, transitional and permanent housing; advocacy for the safety, shelter and healing of domestic violence victims, and the provision of community services to people in need. 

MCCA’s overall goal is to help individuals and families reach self sufficiency. In order to accomplish this outcome it forms partnerships with a variety of local governmental bodies, private businesses, educational institutions and other human services. The organization works cooperatively to create and provide both safety nets and life improvement opportunities for people and families living in poverty in McLean and Livingston County. 

MCCA provides its services in four locations: including an office in Pontiac and three locations in the Bloomington area that includes the headquarters office on Washington Street. It receives funding from a variety of sources including Community Services Block Grants, NeighborWorks ® America, United Way, fees for service as well as corporate and private donations. The organization is a chartered member of NeighborWorks® America and is a long-term member of the Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies.

Search for Executive Director: Mid Central Community Action. Inc’s current Executive Director will be retiring in 2010. The Board of Directors has begun a search to identify and hire an individual who will provide the vision and strong leadership for the further advancement of the agency as guided by its mission and values. 

Positions currently reporting to the Executive Director include the Chief Fiscal Officer, the Director of Human Resources, the Directors of Housing Development, Countering Domestic Violence, and Community Services, the Mayors Manor Program Manager and the Weatherization Coordinator. 

 The key priorities of this position are to:
• Manage the operations of the organization ensuring compliance with board established policies as well as the regulations and policies of all funders 

• Expand and sustain positive relations with the communities served by the organization accurately representing policies and procedures 

• Work effectively with the organization’s Board of Directors ensuring that the Board has the information it needs to effectively govern including reports of progress on planning and revenue production efforts 

Expectations/Characteristics of Candidates: This successful candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of management experience and a working knowledge of nonprofit boards. S/he will be expected to:
• Provide strong leadership for advocacy and fundraising while taking the agency to the next level in its strategic vision, 

• Possess the interpersonal skills that will assure successful relationship building with a variety of external stakeholders, 

• Have familiarity with the issues affecting not-for-profit agencies as they relate to the organization’s mission, 

• Demonstrate solid communication skills and a collaborative management style. 

• Offer evidence of strong bottom line orientation with ability to effectively delegate and hold staff accountable while identifying and developing the organization’s future leaders.
