On Tuesday, November 2nd, MCCA will hold a free homebuyer’s seminar for first time homebuyers and anyone interested in how the homebuying process works. Enjoy a light supper as you learn how to:

  • understand your mortgage
  • build a team of homebuying professionals
  • avoid predatory lending practices
  • reduce your mortgage payments using government grants, and
  • save thousands of dollars before closing on your home

Experts will be on hand to answer your questions about choosing a home, choosing a realtor, home inspections, and many other topics.

Don’t miss the “Invitation 4 Communication”, a VIP activity for girls 11-14 and their mothers or special role models. The workshop will focus on embracing the challenges and joys of tween/teen years, ahd strengthening mother/daughter relationships. Participants will leave with a groundwork for healthy, respectful relationships and boundaries, and an appreciation for the unique, special person they are. If you’re thinking of buying a home or refinancing your mortgage, and are confused by mixed messages about the current housing market, our “Home Ownership – Good Decisions in an Unstable Housing Market” is just the workshop for you! There are three sessions to choose from: 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, and no pre-registration is required. This workshop will cover credit repair and credit counseling; do’s and don’ts when choosing a home, a realtor and a lender; and financial assistance programs for women looking to purchase a home, as well as information on avoiding predatory lending and foreclosure.

Please note, there is a change of date for the May homebuyer education class. The class will now be held on Tuesday May 18 and Thursday May 20. The classes run from 4pm to 8pm and a light supper is provided.

Mid Central Community Action, Inc. (MCCA) rolled out its new online homebuyer education program this week.  For the first-time since the inception of the program, which has been operating for more than ten years, first time home buyers within the agency’s expanded service area will be able to access HUD Certified home buyer education course online.

With the new online presence also comes increased access to down payment assistance funding of up to $5,000.  Income-eligible participants can use this forgivable grant towards either down payment funds on a first home or closing costs incurred as the result of the purchase of a first home.
