Community Services

The range of services covered by Community Services programming extends from homeless prevention to emergency foreclosure intervention.

Community Services are the core programs of a Community Action agency. They are designed to help families move to self sufficiency by providing crisis assistance, help with energy costs and home weatherization.

7,324 households received energy assistance
4,036 domestic violence Hotline calls received
2,085 households received information and/or referrals
1,092 adults and children received CDV services
1,074 senior citizens assisted in Livingston County
1,035 adults and children received individual or group counseling through CDV
233 households received crisis assistance
268 women and children sheltered from domestic violence
191 families received housing counseling
116 households received support through the Home Weatherization Assistance Program
106 individuals enrolled in Home Buyer Education
81 new home owners received downpayment assistance
49 individuals received transitional housing
32 individuals received permanent supportive housing
19 individuals participated in the Second Chance Renters program
10 individuals held Individual Development Accounts
6 students graduated from Heartland Community College Business Essentials program

Congressman Tim Johnson (R) visited Fairbury yesterday. hosting a town hall meeting with residents. Mid Central Community Action’s Director of Housing Development, Rick Barrera, attended the meeting to address the issue of the rising number of foreclosures in the area, and the time it takes to get loan modifications approved. Along with Rep. Shane Cultra (R), Johnson answered questions from the crowd of more than 30 people who attended the meeting.

A Midsummer Night's Dream: Celebration of Dreams in Action, was held at the Bloomington, IL, Doubletree Hotel on Friday, June 18th. This fundraising dinner also serves to recognize our Dreamweavers - our clients who have worked hard to achieve some of their life's dreams. We also honor community partners, volunteers and recognize staff years of service.

Dwight tornado damage, June 2010 (9 photos)

On Saturday, June 6, a tornado caused devastation in the town of Dwight, Illinois. Mid Central Community Action, Inc. is able to assist eligible displace residents with security deposits or first months rent. We can also assist with minor car repairs. MCCA employees from the Pontiac office have been hard at work in Dwight, assisting with the clean up effort.

Neighbors in the Holton Homes complex in Bloomington, IL, are forming a Residents Council to address problems they are experiencing in their community.

On May 26, 2005, the former Beich candy factory - property owned by MCCA - was destroyed in a fire. In 2007, work started on a new subdivision of affordable homes, the Trailside Subdivision
