Second Chance Renters

The mission of the Second Chance Renters program is to provide program oversight and coordinate multi-agency efforts to address the issue of housing homeless persons in our local communities.  Mid Central Community Action, Inc. will work with clients to locate a landlord who will work with them in securing a safe and affordable place to live.

Second Chance Renters is a series of six classes covering topics such as: Budgeting, Time Management, Stress and Nutrition, Goal Setting/Career Management, Communication/Conflict Management, and Landlord/Tenant Rights.  After completing the series of classes, an individual would obtain a certificate of completion.  This certificate is helpful when working with landlords. Once certified, an individual will receive assistance in securing rental housing as well as assistance in obtaining deposit and first month’s rent.

The completion of the course will help individuals that have one or more of the following concerns:

• finding quality affordable housing
• poor credit histories
• poor rental histories
• a lack of skills to effectively negotiate with prospective landlords
• poor budgeting skills
• fleeing domestic violence situations
• on-going substance abuse
