MCCA’s Community Services Block Grant Program annually awards scholarships to residents of McLean and Livingston Counties.

The program is funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Interested non-traditional students registered at an Illinois accredited vocational school, community college, or four year college must:

  1. Complete and submit a Scholarship Application Package, available at our Bloomington and Pontiac offices, by March 15. Deadline for submitting applications is April 30.
  2. After submitting an application package, schedule an initial interview with Laura G (309) 829-0691 ext 227, or email hsgcase@mccainc.org to verify income eligibility.
  3. Attend the Scholarship Review Committee Interview Meeting for all candidates, normally scheduled in late May.

Scholarships are awarded for tuition and fees, textbooks, childcare, and transportation. A Scholarship Committee composed of educators, counselors, and community leaders will interview all income eligible applicants and make the determination of the awards.

Scholarship Program – 2008

Mid Central Community Action, Inc. announces 8 scholarship awards to non-traditional, low-income students.   These scholarships are funded through the Illinois  Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity as part of our Community Service Block Grant program.  The program is open to low-income residents of Livingston and McLean Counties.

Each of the recipients will receive a $750 scholarship to help them with their studies and school expenses this fall.  To qualify for the Scholarship Program students must be enrolled in an Illinois college and be at least 25 years of age.  Age exceptions can be made for those under 25 who are living on their own with a dependent.

This year, 8 students completed the process necessary to qualify for a scholarship.  Applicants began by providing information on their school enrollment, income and course of study.  They then met with a panel of educators, public service and business professionals who reviewed their requests.  The panel worked with each applicant by giving  them advice, encouragement and suggested additional opportunities in their field of study.  The panel then made award recommendations to the staff.

We wish to congratulate Jennifer Biddle, Kristin Fink, Tabitha Harding, Leslie Johnson, Gabriel Powell, YaRoni Prather, Lamika Terrell & Jo Anne Zavala for their hard work and we wish them well in their continued studies.   This is just one of the programs Mid Central Community Action, Inc. provides to support our mission “To promote safe and stable families, neighborhoods and communities.”
