Senior Services
Livingston County ONLY
We offer information, referral, advocacy, and home visits to seniors needing Assistance using ECIAAA funds. We also assist with emergency services through GAP funding, and through our own Emergency Services (CSBG) and Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) programs.
The key component of the program is a full time Senior Advocate who travels to all parts of the county to do home visits as well as seeing seniors in our Pontiac office. By having a knowledgeable advocate, seniors benefit by getting information on a wide range of programs and an explanation of how those programs work.
In one case last year, our Senior Advocate visited a very low income senior and found that woman had a heart condition and was living in a poorly maintained one room apartment where she had to walk up 20 stairs. Our advocate suggested applying for subsidized housing in Dwight which would save her $160 per month rent. She made sure that the senior was receiving Circuit Breaker assistance for her medicines, and she was able to have a phone installed at a discount rate. The advocate told her about a local taxi service and medical transport service so she could get around without having to depend on her son who lovies in Kankakee. She also told her about Peace Meals as an option to get some nutritious meals delivered right to her door.
